The truth is, we have been Drinkwell converts for a couple of years, ever since the wonderful, animal-loving people at PetSafe sent a pagoda fountain for Rocky.

These fountains are brilliant.

Firstly, they're beautifully produced in ceramic (various colours available) and so always look good and are hygenic. When they get mucky they wash in the dishwasher really well. We just keep ours topped-up with bottled water and the cats - especially Ugs - love it.

We change the filters every month or so (they're inexpensive) to make sure everything runs as it should. The pump is also replaceable if necessary, although we've never needed to in 2 years.

It's really important that your cat is kept well hydrated, not least in the hot weather so many of us around the world have had. This fountain provides the perfect solution for doing just that. We love it.

This is brilliant!

If you have outdoor cats - or live in a really large house and your cat has a habit of disappearing, then this might be the gadget for you.

It's neatly packaged and incredibly simple to set-up and use. We were up and running within 10 minutes with a Tractive account set up and the app downloaded onto our iPhones. And it works!

When you register the tracker you can record the name of the cat to whom you assign the unit together with his vital statistics. Attach the tracker to his collar and open the app. You'll see a detailed map of your surrounding areas (which can be expanded) and you zoom right in. There's enough detail to track your cat through the rooms of your house.

There are litter boxes. There are litter trays. There are, I should imagine, litter bins. But there's only one Litter Robot, as far as we're aware.

The build quality is excellent, the idea is novel and incredibly well thought through and it's very straightforward to operate. But that's not what's cool. What's cool is simply owning one: a robot to scoop your cats' poo.

The sense of anticipation as the drum revolves through a cycle, sifting the clean, un-clumped litter before dumping (I know) the solids, is rewarding. But the smug feeling of not needing to scoop poo by hand is the real selling point for me.
