We've seen many cardboard cat scratchers and they're all a bit different with their own unique selling points.

Thee were three things we particularly like about CarboardSafari's 'Hip Sunglasses':

1) The design. Definitely the quirkiest we've seen. You can always spot a designer's touch. This piece will definitely be a talking point.

2) The weight. The product felt light (good news for shipping) but very well manufactured with very crisp cutting.

Base

Base is 40 mm (1.56 ") thick, weights about 7kg and measures 100 cm x 50cm (19.7"), we have made sure that the post is stable and safe for even large cats.

Made of a tube with a wall thickness of 10 mm (0.4 "). Thanks to the use of such a thick material, there is no risk of damage to the pillar even with very vigorous play. The core of the pillar is made wood, its high quality guarantees that it will not be damaged in time. A metal socket with a M10 thread length of up to 4 (1.56 ") cm is used to eliminate the risk of twisting or loosening of the screw. The piece has been wrapped in a natural 12 mm (0.5 ") sisal rope! Is extremely comfortable to use by cats, because they can easily pinch their claws. The rope is very dense wrapped and additionally secured at the ends so that it will not move or unwind during use.

Cat shelf

Its 22 mm thick !!! It is very safe and exceptionally stable. Suitable even for the largest pets, which will be able to use without fear. Dimensions of shelves is 40 cm in diameter, guarantees enough space during leisure and fun. 

Pillows:

The 40 cm x 40 cm pillow is made of Ripcord. Very nice to the touch, extremely resistant to tear. The pillow was filled with silicone balls that did not absorb odours and water. Also the pillow can be successfully washed in a washing machine at 40 degrees.

We've had the joy of of owning and reviewing many cat trees over the years. They're all pretty similar in principle: a series of platforms hanging from a central pillar, generally wrapped in rope. And we know cats love them: they love to clim, scratch and sit up-high. 

And MyCatHome's modular offering is similar. But there's a difference - and it's a big difference. The build quality and the quality of the materials is exceptional - and I use the word in its literal sense.

The base alone weighs 7 kilos (about 15 pounds) and is made of 1.5" plywood, stained and nicely finished. The two upper platforms are made from similarly heavy wood.

The fixtures are heavy duty and the structure fits together solidly with a cleverly thought-out aligning mechanism. It's not going to break.

The cushions are a lovely touch (available in several colours). Soft and luxurious, they fit snugly over the platforms and are easily removed for cleaning.

The upper pillar is crowned with a wooden cap which is screwed into place. It looks great.

More great fun stuff from the land of green and white cat kit!

We've had quite a few Catit products over the last year and they have a few  things in common:

1) They've been thought about. The designers have clearly studied cat behaviour and needs and made a smart, creative response

2) They're durable. The quality of the plastics is great and they are easy to clean; they just go on and on.

3) They're green and white and look quite spiffy.

Needless to say, Prince was first on the 2.0 (which, as Catit claim, is very stable). He had his paws in and was knocking down Dreamies quite happily. He stopped after a while and whether this was because he was bored of treats, bored of having to work for them or just being obtuse, I'm not sure. But this does seem to be an effective system for portion control.

We'll watch to see how the cats get on over the coming weeks.

Simple, solid and elegant.

We have Persians. Persians have flat faces and aren't well equipped for snuffling for food at ground level, so we need to raise food bowls for Tom and Norman. We generally drop their bowls into household soup bowls to gain a bit of extra height.

Just one quick test had Tom mesmerised! 

We have had a lot of fun. Switch it on and a fox's tail (which, someone pointed-out, looks a bit like a paw) stabs and jerks randomly to annoy your cat.

Prince was obsessed. Pixie wanted to beat it up. Norman was interested but too scared of Prince to let himself go. Tom was just too lazy to care.

Hours of fun with this - for us as well as the cats.

Highly recommended - this is a keeper.

I have to say, we've seen quite a few variations on the compressed cardboard cat scratch furniture theme and they're usually pretty good.

But there are a few things which stood out with cat-on's offering.

Firstly, the quality of the cutting and assembly. I  would describe it as 'crisp'. Everything lines-up as it should and the furniture feels solid. I may be imagining this (like I'm ever going to check), but it also feels lighter than some similar models. This is good news because shipping something this size can be expensive.

This tight build quality gives the scratcher a sort of 'resonance' when you pick it up and tap it, like a dull bell. Cat-on clearly take some pride in this and say 'When you hear the cats scratching on our products, it sounds like music '.

Cat-on products are constructed out of single sheets of cardboard. They claim that by using a high quality paper with long wooden fibres, their products should have a much longer lifetime than other scratchers.  It might be a long wait, but we'll watch with interest..

The 'figure-of-eight' / infinity shape looks great and in practical terms works well. The gentle curve was perfect for Prince to snuggle into and he was comfortable on there for ages. It can also be used 'upside down', so if the top wears out (and it will, eventually) the bottom is still good.

And we love the fact that designs can be personalised. It's great to see The Magnificats' name printed onto the scratcher; makes it it just that bit more special.
